Ed Sheeran Wins "Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get it On" Lawsuit Brought Against Him
A Manhattan federal jury found that Ed Sheeran did not infringe on the copyright of "Let's Get it On" when Sheeran wrote "Thinking Out Loud." But the end is not in sight for litigation over music.
In a case closely watched by the music industry, Ed Sheeran came out on top. The Estate of Ed Townsend, a writer of “Let’s Get It On,” brought a suit against singer, Ed Sheeran. The suit claimed that Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” violated Townsend’s copyright of “Let’s Get it On.” Marvin Gaye’s estate was not involved in the lawsuit against Sheeran.
